Gatorland, located about 20 minutes from Walt Disney World, Sea World and the airport, is considered the alligator capital of the world.
Gatorland is a 110 acres of wildlife preserve and theme park that delivers one heck of a day of fun for the family.
Gatorland, which opened in 1949, offers up enormous alligator and crocodile displays, a train ride, aviary, breeding march, bird sanctuary, and ironically – a children’s water park. Don’t worry, they keep the alligators out.
Make sure you check out Alf if you go, he’s a 15-foot long, 1,000-pound American crocodile and Gatorland’s largest reptile.
If man-eating crocodiles and alligators aren’t enough danger for you, you can swing by Gatorland’s snake exhibit. The exhibit features strike proof glass displays with snakes like the Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, Cottonmouth Water Moccasin, Coral snake, and Scarlet King snake to name a few.
The park isn’t just about looking at animals; you can also catch some pretty wild shows. An 800-seat stadium lets you watch gator wrestling in comfort. The wranglers catch 6 to 8-foot long alligators by hand and climb onto their backs.
The Gator Jumparoo show is another huge attraction. You
won’t believe
how far an alligator will jump out of the water to grab a chunk of food.
